Position Summary 

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working closely with the senior Financial Leaders, the Senior Accountant will provide support to the team with respect to full cycle accounting. This individual will assist with the month-end close, perform financial analysis to understand results and assist with decision making. This role incorporates a combination of financial reporting, financial analysis, and special projects to ensure that corporate business objectives and financial results are met. 

Responsibilities 

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting for the Company.
  • Reconcile and analyze monthly balance sheet, income statements, financial position, cash flow forecasts and budgets.
  • Reviews, verifies and analyzes any deviations and trends against budget, prior months, and prior year's activity. 
  • Maintain a system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of internal controls designed to mitigate risk. 
  • Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset ledger as well as responsible for the capitalization of intangibles. 
  • Provide post-close accounting support on M&A activities, including valuations and acquisition accounting memos. 
  • Assist the Financial controller with year-end tax returns and prepare monthly tax returns. 
  • Assist and guide the Accounting Assistant with more technical accounting interpretations.  
  • Completes project work as required and participates in all reasonable work activities as may be deemed suitable and assigned by management. 

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business/Accounting, holds or is pursuing a professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) 
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience with knowledge of all aspects of corporate accounting and financial management 
  • Ability to analyze data and present recommendations based on outcomes of analysis
  • Ability to provide leadership, mentoring and coaching to subordinate team members 
  • Ability to resolve complex issues and problems and present resolutions to higher-level colleagues as needed 
  • Ability to prepare and effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to management and employees
  • Intermediate Excel Skills (VLOOKUP's, SUMIFS, Pivots) 
  • Experience with Microsoft NAV seen as an asset 
  • Ability to hold a strong right hand to the Financial Controller, and knows when to raise issues and concerns appropriately 
  • Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy 
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to quickly build credibility, rapport and relationships at multiple levels of the organization
